Sustainability and recycling – construction's new DNA

Imagine if we could build with waste without compromising on quality, aesthetics and price.

For some it probably sounds like a utopia, but not for Niklas Nolsøe, one of Denmark's most visionary thinkers when it comes to circular construction. As market and design manager at Lendager Group, Denmark's leading sustainable design studio, he has made it his specialty to always think in terms of recycled building materials in construction or renovation projects. The aim is nothing less than to rethink architecture and revolutionize the way we build. The goal is the highest achievable environmental sustainability, namely to use long-lasting building materials that can also be recycled.

For architect-trained Niklas Nolsøe, there is no doubt that sustainability must be part of construction's DNA. To name just a few examples, which others would consider feverish delusions, Lendager Group has built buildings with recycled waste concrete, waste wood from the subway construction and fungus-infested timber. The buildings are even kept within the same economic framework as traditional new construction.

Lendager is also behind the construction of the unique construction of the office high-rise TRÆ in Aarhus, which with its 78 meters and 20 floors will be completed in 2024 as Denmark's tallest wooden building - and at the same time as one of the tallest in the world. In addition to wood, recycled materials such as used wind turbine blades and waste textiles are used.

Niklas Nolsøe will also talk about how the use of circular materials positively affects a property's value.
